Hi will these methods work for demi permanent hair color? Specifically red dye
Jennie C
Mix baking soda and shampoo with a 1-to-1 ratio of baking soda and shampoo. Lather the mixture into your hair, and then leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing it out with hot water. Do this for a few days or until the dye completely fades.
urmom
dont worry reds are the easiest to get out and blue ishardest and it worked for my blue
Miray
Which method did you try gonna meet my boyfriends parents wanna look casual
Kitana
I’m not sure what dye I used but I dyed my hair black and it hasn’t come out in over a month. I want to dying my hair but I don’t know how to get the black out first.
Jennie C
You can try and see if any of these methods would work. Black is a strong, dark color so it will be difficult to fade it. If it was a semi-semi-permenant color it will also fade out on it’s own.
Alexandra Loftlin
I used Colorista Pink color(semi permanent) and I have been using the Baking soda and dish soap combo and let it sit for 40 minutes and In one go mostly all the color came out.. I have Afro hair and this method works the best for me
Leigh
I dyed my hair black once. Never again! I tried EVERYTHING to get it out. Finally had to just go get a chemical stripper done and even then, I had to do 2 sessions. I just thought red was the hardest color to get out. Boy was I wrong!
Amelia
U can do this with black it’s for semi colors like pink and blue etc,
Kaydence Foster
i tried the baking soda and shampoo method on my purple hair and it did absolutely nothing.
Margaret Carlson
My purple hair has recently turned green since the red dye has faded and the blue undertones have held causing the bleached hair to be a bight green color (you can imagine I’m happy to be quarantined). I used a baking soda/ developer vol 10 / dish soap mixture and left it on for 30ish minutes. It certainty doesn’t come out on the first try but it did make it significantly lighter minty green color. I recommend trying it with a hair mask at the end.
Amy
I have heard of this but add 10 volume developer and purple shampoo so in all it’s baking soda Head and shoulders or your choice of dandruff shampoo purple shampoo 10 volume developer and supposedly that should work I haven’t tried it yet but I am going to tonight feel like I’m forgetting one ingredient if I am I will put it on here when I figure out what it is I’m not at home right now but I will be trying out this method tonight and I have hot, neon pink and really deep dark purple I have loved my unicorn hair but I am wanting a change so I am going to try mermaid hairor fairy hair
Kate
I did all that and dish washing liquid and it faded a wee bit but not much (my hair is full on blue). But I will do a few more times before I go the bleach powder shampoo and developer route!
sarah
I’ve tried doing the baking soda and 10 vol a few times but they have never worked. Im hoping this time it will because I measured out everything. While the previous times I was just guessing how much to use
Patricia Coppola-Mangold
I have been dying my hair for 40 plus years. (Medium golden brown).I have an auto renewal company that sends me color every 5-6 weeks. Recently, my last color was never received. I have now realized that my roots are definitely grey. I am going to try and grow it out. Is there any method of getting rid of the color treated portion without damaging it further?
Tamara
Patricia, did you get good results from any of these methods? I also want to lighten years of brown dye letting my natural grey/white grow out. Best of luck to you.
Janet
I had my hair cut really short until all color grew out and I had gray. Kept it gray for a yr. I looked too old. I just colored my hair brow this week. Love it.
Didi cookie
You can try Oops hair dye remover. It works well but your hair will not be your natural color under there. After repeated dye jobs, your hair will be lighter after you remove the hair color. The dying damages and lightens your natural color.
andi
tried the baking soda and the shampoo, i even added some developer, very little, but pretty much did nothing. the 20 minutes was just to put the paste in my front strands. i have lots of hair and very thick. and for reals. not everything works on my hair. i have to use 30 developer to get it colored. the box colors from the store do nothing, my hair just rejects them. i will try the color remover kits and see how those work. i color my hair red, copper, but i have black and graying hair. wanted to try to see if i can go natural. this won’t work for sure.
Penny M Mattison
I dyed my hair blonde and don’t like it my regular hair color is light brown how do I get back to my color
Ryn
Let your roots grow and go to a salon to get the color matched
Christine
Have you ever tried this with Maria nilla non permanent hair color? I had been using the purple and pink and I’m having trouble removing it from my brown hair. My hair stylist did a bleach test and my hair turned pink. Any suggestions?
Rani Johnson
My daughter is 10 and her grandmother dyed it SPLAT maroon color and I tried the baking soda/ anti dandruff shampoo combo with no results.
I also tried Dawn dish soap with no results.
I will try this combo and will let you know if it does anything.
Sherry
I did the same toy hair with splat. I noticed that sweat made color come out so I tried salt water. I worked as far as getting the color off my shin and scalp.
Rani Johnson
No difference after 1 treatment of this. Maroon SPLAT remains strong.
Robin
Splat is really hard to remove!! I have a box of it yet I’ll probably never use it since I had such a hard time getting the other color out that I tried
Romy
Splat is a fabric dye. It’ll never come out. Hairdressers will tell you to cut your hair and dye darker around it.
Sherri Hoadley
I recently used Revlon Colorsilk to dye my hair black. But I regret doing so because I am not happy with the results. Will any of these methods actually work to remove it from my hair without extreme damage?

I used about 1/2 cup of bicarb and enough vinegar to make a thin paste. I applied it to my hair and it removed what green hair colour didn’t wash out with shampoo alone.
